EAP and Financial Aid

Students who receive financial aid can apply these funds toward their EAP program costs. Here is how it works:

  • Students file a FAFSA and list UCSB as their University.
  • EAP informs UCSB financial aid office which students are participating in EAP and the estimated cost for each program (see Cost above).
  • Financial Aid will repackage EAP students based on EAP program cost estimates. Each student’s campus Financial Aid Office must notify the Universitywide Office of EAP (UOEAP - http://eap.ucop.edu.) in writing of the financial aid awarded for each EAP student. All confirmed financial aid awards, including Federal Direct Loans, will be credited to the student’s EAP account at UOEAP.
  • The Universitywide Office of EAP (UOEAP) applies your financial aid package toward your EAP program fees and disburses any remaining funds. Before your departure, it is the your responsibility to verify with the Financial Aid Office and UOEAP that you have met all requirements, completed all documents, and made the appropriate arrangements for EAP to forward all UC financial aid disbursements to the appropriate U.S. address.

What if my financial aid package is more than my EAP program costs?
EAP will disburse excess aid to you by check to your U.S. address or direct deposit to your U.S. bank account.  To set up the direct deposit, students should fill out the “EFT Authorization Form” available in your pre-departure packets. These disbursements will be made in 1-4 payments (depending on the length of your program) with the first being mailed or deposited approximately 2 weeks before the start of your program.  Students can see “Disbursement Schedule” in the EAP General Guide (link) for estimated dates of when financial aid will be disbursed.

What if I receive an Independent/Non-UC Scholarship?
If you receive a scholarship which requires you to pick up a paper check from BARC or Financial Aid, these checks will be mailed to your permanent address on record while you are abroad.

What if I receive Veteran's Benefits?
Veteran’s Benefits do apply to some EAP fees.  If you receive these benefits, please forward your award letter to the appropriate Finance Specialist (see contact info below) at the Universitywide Office of EAP.
